Today, I want to share with you the story of creating the Eden waves – my most cherished work in this new Zen Pond collection.
Like my spiritual children, each Zen Pond collection is special to me. But with this version, I made a breakthrough: creating water waves containing shimmering Eden rays that never existed before. Each keycap line – from SA to Cherry to Droplet – carries its own distinct soul. The Cherry profile, with its modest height of only 7.4mm, challenged me to create gentle, serene ripples beneath the lake surface. In contrast, the spacious design of SA and Droplet profiles allowed me to unleash more powerful, turbulent waves.
I spent over a month just designing and shaping each wave. 144 molds were meticulously prepared. I selected a special transparent resin so that when adding color to the ultra-thin wave molds, the Eden rays would maintain their purity without blending into a monochromatic mass. This is where the Wavelet technique demonstrates its power – helping the Eden color rays weave through each curve of the wave like separate streams, creating perfect contrast to enhance the beauty of the Koi fish inside.
Then comes the part I know you’ll love: the Art of Ink Dipping!
The combination of resin and alcohol ink creates unpredictable reactions. This isn’t simply a technique but a form of artistic improvisation – where the flowing movements of ink in resin evoke imagination. In the limited space of a keycap, each drop of alcohol ink can create a miniature universe full of colors.
The Koi fish in this collection are also completely redesigned. I spent a lot of time creating graceful fish tails, each with its own story: some are vigorously swishing their tails creating water bubbles, others are leisurely swimming, while some are rising to the water surface as if curious about the outside world. With 45 different designs and over 25 color effects, each fish carries a unique soul, with every scale and head detail meticulously crafted.
After molding and waiting, the newly “born” fish undergo a rigorous selection process. Only the most perfect specimens continue the journey. I place them in molds with varying depths, then patiently pour layers of transparent resin. Each layer requires 16 hours to completely harden in an environment free of dust particles and air bubbles.
When the final layer of resin is poured, completely encasing the fish, it’s time to position the pre-formed water waves. This is the most crucial step, where “nature” and its “inhabitants” blend into a complete artwork. The most challenging part is handling the protruding portions of the Koi fish – they remain within the resin but rise above the keycap surface with “water” surrounding them, protecting the fish while ensuring daily usability and maintaining consistent aesthetics throughout. But the journey isn’t over yet – we still need to wait another 24 hours for the resin to fully solidify.
Polishing is always my favorite part. Holding each keycap, I sand the surface through four different grits, then polish with three special creams. This process requires precision down to the millimeter, especially for the parts where Koi fish rise above the water. I want users to feel the crystal-clear water surrounding the fish, both protecting the artwork and creating an authentic sensation as if a miniature ocean lies beneath their fingertips.
Each Zen Pond keycap isn’t just a keyboard accessory, but a world of its own, a story told through resin and color, where Koi fish find their eternal home in the shimmering Eden waters.
X32 & X77 art toys
This is truly a masterpiece, far exceeding all my expectations. Its enormous size, 77 times larger than a 1u keycap (or 32 times larger than an X32 art toy), allows for the full expression of Zen Pond’s beauty down to the smallest details—from the graceful Koi fish to the gentle ripples on the water’s surface, all perfectly captured in cast resin. Each Art toy will be housed in a massive, CNC-crafted solid wooden box. I’m confident that the Zen Pond Art toy will be the perfect centerpiece for any workspace, bringing a sense of tranquility and peace whenever you gaze upon it.

Recently, after watching the new Ne Zha film, I was completely captivated by the character and felt inspired to incorporate it into my next KOI design as a special gift. I hope you’ll be delighted when you hold it in your hands—the flowing ribbon seems to drift across the sky.
At 2.25u in size, it can serve as either an Enter key or Left Shift key, with an SA R3 profile. When your order exceeds $300, you’ll receive one of these two Ne Zha KOI designs at random.
