Sink In – a pillow that fits on a switch
The form came from the single Pillow Craft cap that’s been in the instock lineup for some time. Customers who ordered it kept asking for a matching set – four pillows together in a cluster rather than one accent sitting alone. The cluster kit is that answer. Same design logic, same production process, four caps in Arrow or WASD formation.
The pillow shape is not a simplified version of a cushion. The sides bunch and fold the way fabric does when the fill inside pushes outward – the surface at the top is relatively smooth and the edges gather into irregular wrinkles that press against neighboring keys. At keycap scale, getting this to read correctly required sculpting each fold individually. The overall silhouette had to be recognizable as a pillow from a meter away and still hold detail under close inspection.
The two colors behave differently under the same light, though the surface finish is identical on both. Black concentrates the contrast – the folds read darker in the recesses and brighter along the ridges, which makes the sculpt’s geometry more visible. White diffuses it, the same fold structure reading softer and more even across the surface. The same sculpt, the same finish, two different readings depending on which color is on the board.
The legend is a separate cast element placed on the top surface of the pillow, small, clean, sitting slightly above the fabric texture rather than pressed into it. On the WASD set: lowercase w, a, s, d. On the arrow set: four directional arrows, each pointing the correct way. The contrast between legend and pillow body is built into the color pairing, white legend on black, black legend on white.
Two profiles are available. The Cherry-height version sits lower, the pillow form compressed into a flatter shape that clears neighboring keycaps without dominating them. The SA-height version gives the pillow its full volume, taller, rounder at the crown, the folds at the sides more pronounced. Which reads better depends on the surrounding keyset and how much the board can absorb before the cluster becomes the only thing in the room.
