“Behold, this is a design offered exclusively at DROP, to be delivered unto thee after three months of diligent craftsmanship. The chessboard itself is hewn from noble ash and steadfast walnut. This marks the very first of my chess series – a creation I await with great anticipation as the forthcoming DROP unveiling draws near.”
Born from a deep passion for chess, this project had been simmering in my mind for over a year – an ambitious vision I first teased back in 2023. Now, that vision has finally materialized into something extraordinary: a complete chess set reimagined as artisan keycaps. Join me as I unveil the painstaking journey behind each of these remarkable pieces.
I’ve poured countless hours and my whole heart into crafting these 12 chess pieces, each one a miniature masterpiece with its own distinctive character. Their design serves a dual purpose – they function perfectly as keyboard keycaps while transforming into authentic chess pieces when arranged on a board.
Drawing inspiration from the Medieval Crusaders – a theme rich with epic historical significance – I wanted to capture chess’s strategic essence intertwined with the valor, faith, and honor of that legendary era. The two opposing forces stand in stark contrast: one side features noble warriors clad in intricate, brightly colored armor; the other presents a formidable opposition with menacing appearances, spiked armor, and cold, intimidating hues.
Each chess piece represents a unique, complex design with multiple cast layers in different colors. The fabric details on the King, Queen, Bishop, and Pawn pieces are particularly striking, rendered through color-shifting casting techniques that highlight every realistic textile texture. The metal armor elements undergo a special surface treatment in the mold before being cast with matching colored resin, creating an effect so authentic you’d swear you were looking at actual metal.
But I didn’t stop there. I incorporated gem-like accents and LED-compatible transparent effects using hologram casting techniques, giving each piece its own distinctive character with multi-colored internal light reflections.
Now, I invite you to behold the beauty of these Chess Pieces through these authentic images I’ve personally captured! And I can’t forget to mention the essential companion to these pieces: a Chess Board handcrafted entirely from solid walnut and ash wood. Each wooden section was carefully selected, treated, and joined into a seamless whole. This board isn’t just for gameplay. it features 35 internal compartments, enough to store all 32 chess pieces, or alternatively, your favorite artisan keycaps. Beyond serving this current series, this board will showcase future chess-themed collections as well.
